Let’s face it

This 2020 is not the year we had planned.

Even if you’re not a planner, it’s still probably a bit on the surprising (or downright crazy) side.

If you had a big birthday, wedding, conference, festival, work contract, performance, tour, holiday or group gathering, you might have had to rethink. Maybe there wasn’t time to review and, without warning, your plans were simply cancelled.

What? Cancelled? Well, they are “on hold”, “frozen for the moment”, taking “a pause”. Really?

Have you been in lock-down for months?

For some working from home has simply meant juggling. That juggling has been all-consuming. For others, the idea of work is so appealing, if only their space or industry were open and moving forward.

Maybe this is not the school year or Uni or College experience you expected?

If you’ve been home-schooling, zooming endlessly (you’re on mute!) and putting out fires or building team morale or family connections remotely, give yourself some credit.

This year did not come with an operating manual or how-to guide. The year without a plan. Not a plan in sight.

Congratulate yourself for putting one foot in front of the other and getting out of bed on days you would have preferred to hide under the pillow.

We’re in the final quarter, and you haven’t trained for that marathon, learnt that new language hit the targets, grown that side gig into an empire or written your memories (really you couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried).

You have turned up though. Tick. You have done your best. You have been present.  You have pivoted, reinvented morning, noon and night, got creative (frustrated, shocked, joyful, bored, chaotic, surprised and sad) and rewritten what every day has looked like. It may not always look pretty, but you got through it anyway.

Take a moment to count those accomplishments.

Let’s go.

Just a minute now.
