I don’t know

What will today bring? I don’t know. What will tomorrow look like? I don’t know.

It can be uncomfortable not knowing.

We think uttering these 3 words, “I don’t know”, will somehow undermine, lessen or reduce us.

If you’re a planner, you may have noticed it is nearly impossible to schedule that special birthday, a wedding, get together with friends, visiting relatives, travel or any outing.

If you’re in lockdown, you may be missing a lot of these things and many more.

Luckily whilst we don’t know what the future holds, we can focus on what we can control.

We could focus on :

  1. What time we get up, and how we start each day
  2. Eating foods that nourish us
  3. Wiggle, dance, walk around the block, move some more
  4. Kick overwhelm and focus on one thing
  5. Compliment more than criticise
  6. Stay curious and course-correct as needed
  7. Deciding what we want to make space for
  8. Celebrate the small wins

Getting comfortable with not knowing is a challenge. Change is making room for something else. No, I don’t know what yet.

It’s surprising, exhausting, stretching, rough, and all along, it is polishing us.

Dennis Merritt Jones asked, “What if we could learn to accept “I don’t know”, and to embrace the possibility that the future is full of mystery, excitement and unlimited opportunity?”

We have an incredible capacity to hold all that life is. We are cultivating our everyday courage. So, reach out to old friends, laugh more, read that favourite book, smell the flowers and notice the sunshine.

There is never a perfect time, so choose right now. We don’t know what’s next.
Make room in each day for delight anyway.

Let’s go (because we can).

Just a minute now.
